The poet Nigel McLoughlin had advertised on facebook that he was launching his ‘Greatest Hits’ collection 5th collection of poetry entitled Chora New and Selected Poems @ The White House in Limerick and also in Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop in Galway. They seemed just that little bit too far away for me to travel to for a book launch so I asked Nigel if any of the dates of his world tour included anywhere in Northern Ireland. He replied by saying he was looking for a Belfast venue for August. Or anywhere else I could suggest? So I ended up arranging a book launch/poetry reading a bit closer to home @ the Laurel Villa in Magherafelt.
It was a very enjoyable and inspiring afternoon and it was a joy to hear Nigel read and give a bit of a background to the poem A Hill Farmer Speaks I’m also delighted to now have the book Chora to ponder over for a long time. I occasionally check the last page in a book and did with Chora just to read and enjoy the title poem of the book. It’s a poem worth buying the book just to read.
Nigel’s world tour hasn’t ended yet the next stop is The Shamrock Lodge, Main Street, Falcarragh, County Donegal. It’s on Friday the 28th of August @ 8pm. If you seem him there tell him I sent you.
